The Board of Governors of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education will meet by conference call at noon, Monday, May 21, to consider the selection of the State System’s next chancellor.

The search for the System’s fifth chancellor began in fall 2017 with the appointment of an eight-member search committee co-chaired by Board of Governors Chairwoman Cynthia D. Shapira and Board Vice Chair Harold C. Shields.

The committee received input from more than 350 students, faculty, staff, alumni and other stakeholders during the nearly seven-month search process and conducted several rounds of interviews. The last round of interviews involved the full Board as well as representatives of the various stakeholder groups.

The next chancellor will lead the ongoing “System Redesign,” the result of a top-to-bottom review of the State System and its 14 universities and intended to have a positive effect on students, to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the System and to support strategic changes that will help ensure the System’s long-term success. Following the completion of that review last year, the Board adopted three priorities to guide the redesign: ensuring student success, leveraging the universities’ strengths and transforming the leadership and governance structure.

The chancellor search committee also included Board Vice Chair David M. Maser; Board members Thomas S. Muller and Samuel H. Smith; Ryan Long, president of the Student Government Association at West Chester University of Pennsylvania; Laura Delbrugge, a faculty member and chair of the Foreign Language Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania; and Donna Wilson, interim president of Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania.

The Board conference call will originate from the Dixon University Center, 2986 N. Second St., Harrisburg. The public is invited to attend. The meeting also will be streamed live at www.passhe.edu. For more information, please contact Kenn Marshall at (717) 720-4054 or kmarshall@passhe.edu.
