Early Job Search Pays Off for ESU Grad

As East Stroudsburg University students began fall classes, Zhaoyuan Guo M’16 had advice for the seniors and graduate students: Don’t wait until graduation to start your job search.

Guo, who earned her Master of Education in instructional technology from ESU in May, was hired a month later by System One, one of the largest professional staffing firms in the country, to work with a client, The Hershey Company. As a contractor, Guo develops online lessons that teach employees how to perform different tasks for the company.

ESU Wins $4 million National Science Foundation Grant for Scholarships and Research

In the largest single grant ever awarded to East Stroudsburg University, the National Science Foundation (NSF) is giving $4 million to help transfer students complete their education at ESU in the fields of science, technology and math.

The five-year grant for the project — dubbed Clear Path — provides scholarships for about 120 students who start their education at community colleges and transfer to ESU for bachelor’s degrees in such fields as biochemistry, physics, computer science and mathematics.

Theatre Alumnus Lands Apprenticeship with Shakespeare Company

Jamil Joseph defines “summer fun” differently than most people. A May 2016 graduate of East Stroudsburg University’s Theatre Department, Joseph spent 12 weeks in Massachusetts in intensive study as part of the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s Apprentice program.

Based at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass., the program’s 26 apprentices took classes in movement, voice and Shakespearean text analysis. They also received individual coaching. The apprentices performed in one of two Shakespearean plays, Cymbeline and Measure for Measure and supported the company’s main production of Love’s Labour’s Lost, presented on Boston Common.
