ESU APSCURF Names Annual Graduate Scholarship Recipients for 2019

The East Stroudsburg University chapter of Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Retired Faculties (APSCURF) has announced two recipients for its Annual 2019 Spring Semester Scholarship.

Enrolled graduate students in the College of Business Management and the College of Arts & Science have been selected. Each will receive a $500 scholarship for the spring 2019 semester.

Brandy Lynn Padilla is a graduate student in the College of Business Management from Kunkletown, Pa. She holds an associate degree from Northampton Community College in 2006 and Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from ESU in 2012 with a 4.0 GPA.

Padilla has been employed in public relations, health care and customer service and is currently case manager with Meals on Wheels in Bethlehem, Pa. She also is a member on the executive board of the Lehigh Valley Aging in Place Coalition.

Weston Frank Strubert, a graduate student from Bartonsville, Pa., will complete a Master of Science in biology (thesis concentration) and a Master of Science in general science with a concentration in geographic information systems and remote sensing. Strubert graduated magna cum laude from ESU in 2014 with an undergraduate degree in environmental studies.

Much of Strubert’s research has centered on analyzing stream quality for the Delaware River Watershed Initiative. He was also the lead student in the creation of ESU’s publication, Arboretum Guide – The Trees of the ESU Campus”.

Criteria for the scholarships were based on their academic record, community service, department recommendations and career goals. The recipients were selected by a committee of retired faculty under the direction of the ESU Graduate College.
