East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and The Association of Turkish and American Communication Scholars (ATACS) will host the 13th International Communication in the Millennium Symposium from May 12 to May 15.

Cem Zeytinoglu, Ph.D., associate professor of communication studies, and the communication studies department will arrange the logistics for the symposium and work with ATACS for its organization.

The international symposium was started in 2003 by scholars in Turkey and the United States, and has been hosted in both countries. The mission of the ATACS is to advance the communication profession in both countries through well-grounded academic research and to foster communication academics’ cooperation. Although the main cooperation is between scholars of these two countries, scholars from other countries are also welcome.

ATACS aims to foster and promote work that is intended to make a constructive contribution to the communication field and its development. The symposium welcomes work of scholars and graduate students in the communication field.

This year’s symposium will start with a reception on May 12 at 5 p.m. in Lower Dansbury. Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D., president of ESU, and Joanne Bruno, J.D., provost and vice president of academic affairs, will be present at the opening reception and they will welcome the guests.

The keynote address, “Communication Ethics: Inviting Conflict in a World of Multiplicity,” will be delivered by Ronald C. Arnett, a renowned scholar in communication ethics. He is the current executive director of the Eastern Communication Association. He is also the Henry Koren, C.S.Sp., endowed chair for scholarly excellence, and professor and chair of communication and rhetorical studies at Duquesne University.

There will be about 50 scholars presenting their work at the symposium. Additionally, two special sessions will feature local media and communications professionals. More information can be found at the symposium website: http://cimsymposium.blogspot.com/.
