ESU Hosts Memorial for Former President Robert J. Dillman, Ph.D.

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania would like to invite the community to attend a memorial service to celebrate the life of Former President Robert J. Dillman, Ph.D. on January 31 at 1 p.m. in the Abeloff Center for the Performing Arts.

Dr. Dillman, 73, who passed away on November 25, 2014, served as president of ESU from 1996 to 2012. At the time of his passing, he was living in Lewes, Del., with his wife of more than 50 years, Roseann (Morris). A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Dr. Dillman is also survived by the couple’s four children: Deirdre and her husband John Buckley of Wilmington, Del.; John Dillman and his wife, Melissa of Gilbert, Ariz.; Siobhan and her husband Mark Tarley of Morgantown, W. Va.; and James Dillman and his wife, Shannon, of Lyon, France; 10 grandchildren; and one brother, James and his wife, Loretta, of Litchfield, Conn.

Beyond ESU’s campus, Dr. Dillman demonstrated extraordinary leadership and positioned the university as a key economic development force in Northeastern Pennsylvania. During his tenure, ESU established its award-winning Business Accelerator Program, which joined the Ben Franklin Business Incubator Network and the University City Science, and established the division of Research and Economic Development, which continues to serve as a vital educational resource for technology-based entrepreneurs throughout the Pocono Region.

While at ESU, Dr. Dillman served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN), the Northeastern Pennsylvania Colleges and Universities (NEPACU), Penn Security Bank, the Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce, the State Planning Board, the Workforce Investment Board (WIB), the Northeast Pennsylvania Technology Institute (NPTI) and WVIA Public Broadcasting. He was also a member and past chair of the boards of directors of the Marine Science Consortium and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
