Kimberly S. Adams, Ph.D., presented her work titled “The Influence of Proportional Representation and Democratization on the Share of Female Parliamentarians in Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) Countries.” The research examined the political and socio-economic factors that influence the share of women serving in the parliaments of 14 Middle East and North African (MENA) countries at the International Journal of Arts & Sciences (IJAS) International Conference for Social Sciences and Humanities at Harvard Medical School. The findings showed that the level of democracy within a country and the electoral system adopted by a country are statistically significant indicators of female representation.

The East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania political science professor also served as chair for several research presentations at the conference held May 26-30.

“The presentation was very well received. Ironically, most of the people in the room were natives of Africa and the Middle East,” Dr. Adams said. “What a terrific experience to present to an audience where most of the people had first-hand knowledge of my research topic. I obtained valuable feedback from a conference participant who lived in an Arab state. I plan to incorporate some of his suggestions in the manuscript.”

Dr. Adams will be writing the manuscript for publication in the IJAS journal.
