Louis Wein, a graduating communication major from Schwenksville, Pa., is East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s student speaker for the spring commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 5, at 8:45 a.m., and Hayley Jackson, a communication sciences & disorders major from Bath, Pa., is the student speaker for the spring commencement ceremony at 1:45 p.m. Both ceremonies will be held in Koehler Fieldhouse

Undergraduate student speaker candidates must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average entering the spring semester; a demonstrated record of service to the university community and a record of leadership and cooperation; demonstrated evidence of meaningful extra/co-curricular involvement and must be in good academic standing.

Wein has spent his four years at ESU actively seeking out leadership opportunities on campus. He was a resident advisor, orientation leader, the public relations chair for student senate, and a member of the Warrior Elite student ambassador program. As an office assistant for the vice president of student affairs Wein aided in coordinating programing that helps students to grow academically and personally.

Wein hopes to take what he has learned from his campus experiences to empower his fellow graduates as they step into the next chapter of their lives.

Jackson was a student leader during her time at ESU. She was a member of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, president of the Sign Language Club, National Society of Leadership, Autism Awareness, WESS radio station and a student-athlete during her freshman year. She was also a resident advisor in Sycamore Suites.

Her time at ESU was also immersed in community. Jackson was a volunteer at local soup kitchens and Meals on Wheels, and taught sign language at Mekeel Daycare.

Jackson lost her mother during her freshman year at ESU. She attributes her leadership skills, hard work, and persistence to her mom.
