Brian Polito, an East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania senior majoring in political science, spent more than three months interning at The International Center for Innovation in Civic Participation (ICP), a nonprofit organization that provides worldwide consultation for youth service programs and also disseminates research to its global networks.

Polito, who’s from New Hope, Pa., met and interacted with many influential individuals and politicians during his time in Washington, D.C., from January 28 to May 2. Some of the highlights of Polito’s internship were attending a panel at The Washington Post where former President Jimmy Carter discussed his recent book about violence against women, and meeting U.S. Senator Bob Casey, U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District Mike Fitzpatrick, and Elizabeth Fowler, vice president for global health policy in the Government Affairs and Policy Group at Johnson & Johnson. In addition, Polito visited the German Embassy for a discussion on international aid and immigration.

When Polito wasn’t busy writing press releases or articles for the ICP monthly newsletter or for weekly blogs, he tutored English as a second language at the Ethiopian Community Center for two hours a week. Polito also was responsible for updating ICP’s website and social media pages.
