East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania recently signed a reverse transfer agreement with the Community College of Philadelphia.

The reverse transfer agreement is unique and important because it allows students to transfer coursework from ESU to the College to complete their associate degrees.

“A reverse transfer agreement with the Community College of Philadelphia will allow students to get a taste of the four-year college experience even before they complete their initial associate degrees,” Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D., president of ESU, said. “Our hope is that a reverse transfer opportunity will provide students with alternative options to complete their associate degrees and give them confidence and encouragement to continue their studies toward a bachelor’s degree with us.”

Students from Community College of Philadelphia who transfer to ESU before earning their associate degree may eventually transfer completed credits back to Community College of Philadelphia to satisfy the associate degree requirements. In order to take advantage of the reverse transfer agreement, students must have earned a minimum of 30 credits at the College and must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average and be/have been in good standing at both institutions.Since 2010, 44 former Community College of Philadelphia students have enrolled at ESU.

“Reverse transfer agreements keep students on track and moving toward their educational goals,” said Donald Guy Generals, Ph.D., president of Community College of Philadelphia. “The associate degree is a valuable credential for those who are job hunting or seeking career advancement. It allows them to be more competitive in the job market as they finish their baccalaureate degree.”
