On April 20, East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) signed two articulation agreements with Luzerne County Community College (LCCC), including a reverse transfer agreement and the first ever dual admission agreement.

“This collaboration between our institutions only serves to strengthen our partnership and demonstrates the commitment by ESU and LCCC to student success,” said ESU President Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D. “A dual admission agreement will help to create a seamless transfer of credits for students who are coming to ESU from LCCC with an associate degree, while a reverse transfer agreement with LCCC will allow its students to get a taste of the four-year college experience even before they complete their initial associate degrees.”

For the dual admission agreement, LCCC students are required to complete a dual admission intent form before completing 30 credits or by the beginning of their third semester at the community college. Students must graduate from LCCC with an associate degree and a minimum grade point average of 2.0 and enroll at ESU within one year of LCCC graduation. They may not attend another institution between the time they graduate from LCCC and begin enrollment at ESU.  A full-time student who has completed the appropriate associate degree program at LCCC may be able to complete a bachelor’s degree at ESU within four regular semesters. The majors included in this agreement are business management, chemistry, computer information systems, criminal justice, English, health studies, history, human services, sociology and social work, math, nursing and psychology.

The reverse transfer will allow students to transfer coursework from ESU to Luzerne County Community College to complete their associate degree. In order to take advantage of the reverse transfer agreement, students must have earned a minimum of 30 credits at LCCC and must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average and be/have been in good standing at both institutions.

“Cooperation between community colleges and four-year schools is vital to providing students with paths to rewarding futures,” says Thomas P. Leary, Ph.D., president, LCCC. “By partnering with East Stroudsburg University and streamlining the transfer process, we create more opportunities for our students to capitalize on their academic achievements.”

Founded in 1893, ESU is one of the 14 institutions in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. ESU offers nearly 60 undergraduate degrees and more than 20 graduate degrees.
