When Matthew Summers was in high school in Collegeville, Pa., he played a role in planning different races that benefited various charities. His history of helping others prompted the East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania sophomore to plan a race that would benefit the Cpl. Bryan K. Dickson II Memorial Fund.

The race, started by the university’s event management student organization and Summers, a computer security major and the president of the organization, will take place on Saturday, September 12, and will begin outside of Eiler-Martin Stadium on the university’s campus. In September 2014, Cpl. Dickson was shot and killed at the Blooming Grove state police barracks, where he worked as a trooper.

“In benefiting Cpl. Dickson’s memorial fund, we want to support all fallen officers,” Summers said

The race will cost $20 per runner and an additional $5 for a memorial t-shirt. All proceeds will benefit the memorial fund. The event will include refreshments and entertainment from the university’s radio station, 90.3 WESS- FM.

Runners may visit http://cpldicksonmemorial.wix.com/mainpage for information on mail-in registration. Registration will also be available on the day of the race
