East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) accounting students are offering their assistance to the general public in preparing tax returns free of charge through Saturday, April 13 (excluding April 6th). The ESU Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program will be offered from 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesdays and 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays at the ESU Innovation Center, located at 562 Independence Road, East Stroudsburg, Pa.
All ESU students involved in providing the tax preparation assistance are business management and accounting majors who have received training by the IRS and passed the required qualifying exam. The service is a voluntary component of the students’ required coursework and the associated educational professional development and community service. Student volunteers include: Ronald Novak (East Stroudsburg), Edward Lawrence (Scotrun), Stephanie Rodgers (Saylorsburg), Douglas Wells (Bangor), and ESU graduate James Connolly (Stroudsburg).
For more information or to make an appointment for tax preparation assistance, please call Sheila Handy, Ph.D., associate professor of business management and chair of the business management department, at 570-422-3181. Returns are prepared by appointment only and individuals must meet IRS qualifications.
