Stage II, East Stroudsburg University’s student theatre organization, will premiere The Unforscene — four, original, one-act plays featuring unexpected circumstances—Thursday, November 21, to Sunday, November 24. All plays were written by ESU undergraduates.

The featured works include: The Elephant in the Room and Farewell Love, both written by Andrew Confair; Strangers, by Tyler Aiden Kittle; and Heaven’s Diner by Kimberly Van Felton.

All performances are in the Dale Snow Theatre of the university’s Fine and Performing Art Center, Normal and Marguerite streets. The Dale Snow Theatre is located on the ground floor of the center.

Curtain times for the performances are at 8 p.m. on November 21-23 and at 2 p.m. on November 24. General admission is $12 for adults; $10 for senior citizens, faculty and staff with I.D.; $7 for ESU students with I.D.; and $5 for youth. These plays are recommended for older high school students and adults.

The Elephant in the Room is the story of a man who’s trying to move on with his life after the death of his wife. Unfortunately, his past comes back to haunt him—literally.

In Farewell Love, a man meets his girlfriend for lunch. During the meal, he learns something about her that gives new meaning to the phrase, “it’s not you, it’s me,” which will change their relationship forever.

Playwright Andrew Confair, a senior from Williamsport, Pa., majoring in hotel, restaurant and tourism management, is directing The Elephant in the Room.  Joseph Dougherty, a senior from Pottstown, Pa., majoring in theatre and minoring in business management, is directing Farewell Love.

Strangers exhibits four very different people meeting at a bus stop who seem to be stuck in similar situations. Once they start getting to know each other, they may not be strangers after all…or are they? Tyler Aiden Kittle, a junior from Jim Thorpe, Pa., majoring in theatre, is the author of the play. The piece is being directed by Brandon L. Cabrera, a senior from East Stroudsburg, Pa., majoring in theatre.

Heaven’s Diner tells the story of two friends who accidentally reunite at a local diner where things unexpectedly take a turn for the worse. The play was written by Kimberly Van Felton of East Stroudsburg, Pa., a senior majoring in theatre and sociology with a concentration in social work. Jackie Knollhuff, a senior from Sparta, N.J., majoring in theatre with an emphasis in directing, is directing the piece.

For the Stage II one-act plays, students are responsible for all aspects of the production, including play selection, directing, acting and technical elements.
