ESU to Hold Remembrance Day for Those Who Died Last Year

East Stroudsburg University will hold its annual Remembrance Day Program on Friday, October 21 at 1:00 p.m. to honor the memories of university students, faculty, staff, and alumni who died during the 2010-2011 academic year. The program will be held in the Keystone Room in the Center for Hospitality Management on campus, and will include readings, musical selections, and reflections by ESU students, faculty, and staff. Families of some of those who have passed will also attend and participate. Those whose memories are being honored include:

ESU Students: Ian Grossman, a communications studies major from Bushkill, Pa., and Justin Miranda-Rubinstein, a social studies/secondary education major from Pocono Summit, Pa.

ESU Faculty and Staff: Lester Bowers, a retired faculty member and a 1950 graduate of ESU from Stroudsburg, Pa.; John Fox, a retired staff member from Kunkletown, Pa.; Felix Friedman, a faculty member from Stroudsburg, Pa.; Gary Garver, a retired staff member and 1989 graduate of ESU from Saylorsburg, Pa.; Dorothy Hilliard, a retired staff member from East Stroudsburg, Pa.; Jerilyn Jewett-Smith, a faculty member from Scotrun, Pa.; Sarah Palmisano, a retired staff member and 1998 graduate of ESU from Cresco, Pa.; Margaret Rosso, an employee of ARAMARK dining services from Stroudsburg, Pa.; Virginia Simmons, a retired staff member from Jacksonville, Fla.; Jean Simms, a retired staff member from Hamilton Township, Pa.; and Carolyn Smallacombe, a retired staff member from East Stroudsburg, Pa.

This will be the university’s fourth Remembrance Day program. As of the October 21st program ESU will have honored the memory of 15 students, 19 faculty and staff members, and 219 alumni who have died since 2007.
