East Stroudsburg University’s Veterans Day Celebration is Tuesday, November 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. to recognize local veterans, servicemen and servicewomen in all branches of the armed services. It will also introduce veterans to the educational opportunities available to them at ESU.

The celebration will be in the Keystone Room in the Center for Hospitality Management. In addition, there will be a military observance, which will include a three-volley salute adjacent to the Julia statue at the front campus circle. Julia was originally acquired by East Stroudsburg State Normal School (ESSNS) alumni in 1919 to commemorate and honor the school’s servicemen and women who had died in World War I.

Keynote speaker for this event is Sergeant Major Mark Baylis, who serves as Community Captain for VALOR Clinic. Active reservist Marine Mackenzie Tasetano, ESU Class of 2016, and Raymond Milewski, Ph.D., ESU associate professor of biological sciences and U.S. Army veteran, will provide remarks during the ceremony. Army veteran Tyler Biggs, ESU Class of 2014, will preside over the Veterans Day celebration.

Highlights of the celebration will include a wreath-laying ceremony with a three-volley salute at approximately 2:30 p.m. The celebration is open to the general public and campus community at no cost.

At 3 p.m. in the Keystone Room, refreshments will be served and local veterans organizations will host an information fair.

Visitors to ESU’s campus may find additional parking at the university’s Innovation Center, located at the intersection of Brown Street and Route 447 in East Stroudsburg. Shuttle buses will pick up visitors at the remote location and bring them to the Keystone Room for the celebration before returning them to the Innovation Center at the conclusion of the event.
