East Stroudsburg University will hold a Veterans Day Celebration on Friday, November 11, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to recognize local veterans and servicemen in all branches of the armed services and also to introduce veterans to the educational opportunities available to them at ESU. The celebration will be held in the Keystone Room in the Center for Hospitality Management. There will also be a military observance, including a 21-gun salute, adjacent to the statue (Julia) at the front campus circle. Julia was originally acquired by East Stroudsburg State Normal School (ESSNS) alumni in 1919 to commemorate and honor the school’s servicemen and women who had died in World War I.

Keynote speaker for this event is Colonel Robert Bennett, who is currently at the United States War College at Carlisle Barracks, graduating in 2012. Col. Bennett earned a bachelor of science degree in business management from the University of Alabama and a master of arts degree in education from Ball State University. Former Army Veteran Dennis Higgins, ESU class of 2013, will preside over the Veterans Day Celebration. Highlights of the celebration will include a wreath-laying ceremony, with a 21-gun salute taking place at approximately 2:30 p.m. The celebration is open to the general public and campus communities at no cost.

Refreshments will be served and local veteran organizations will host an information fair in ESU’s Keystone Room.
