East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania will host its fifth annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Tuesday, February 6. ESU students, faculty, staff and members of the community will host a community wellness fair. The fair will be held from 2 – 4 p.m. in the Science & Technology Center’s lower-level lobby and from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Ahnert, Alumni Center.

The wellness fair will have an array of information & services focused on physical health, wellness and mental health/self-care for low income families. There will be hearing screenings conducted by the department of communication science and disorders. The department of nursing and students majoring in nursing will conduct blood pressure screening, demonstrations on how to conduct testicular and breast self–examinations, and give out information on disaster planning as well as information about nutrition.

Guests attending the afternoon session from 2 – 4 p.m. will also receive free admission to the Schisler Museum of Wildlife & Natural History and McMunn Planetarium.

The MLK Day of Service is organized by the MLK Celebration Breakfast Committee.

“At ESU the day of service follows the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday so that students could be back on campus and get involved,” Juanita Jenkins, director of multicultural affairs at ESU and chair of the committee, said. This year’s Day of Service, dubbed Service on the Sixth, is headed by committee members Ly’Esha Fleming, resident director of Linden Hall and Jill Harper, director of campus recreation & wellness.
