East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s political science department welcomed State Representative Steve Samuelson, ESU’s 2014 legislative fellow, to present a lecture titled Lawmaking and Leadership on April 24 in Abeloff Center for the Performing Arts. Rep. Samuelson was first elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1998 and represents the House committee on Aging and Older Adult Services, for which he serves as the Democratic Chair.

He has also served on a number of other House committees including: Appropriations, State Government, Children and Youth, Local Government, Intergovernmental Affairs, Tourism and Recreational Development and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness.

This event was co-sponsored by the department of political science and the newly formed political science club. The political science club is a bi-partisan student organization whose mission focuses on civic literacy, civic engagement, service and advocacy, according to Kimberly Adams, Ph.D., professor of political science.

Mr. Samuelson was very informative. He answered my question which related to the delay of the confirmation of Loretta Lynch for the Attorney General’s position that became available when Eric Holder announced his resignation. Mr Samuelson said he also thought the confirmation took too long. He said that Sen Casey voted for Ms. Lynch’s confirmation while Sen. Toomey did not.
