East Stroudsburg University President Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D. announced today that the university’s enrollment has increased for the second year in a row.

The fall 2015 enrollment of 6,824 includes a freshman class of 1,320. up 2.6% from fall 2014 and ESU’s largest freshman class since 2011. The entering freshman class represents the most diverse in university history. Over 39 percent (39.4%) of the class of 2019 are minority students. The number of African American freshmen increased by 46.3% to 256 students. Hispanic freshmen enrollment increased by 13.2% to 171 freshmen. The 630 entering transfer students represent a 3.1% increase over fall 2104.

Graduate student enrollment increased 5.5% over fall 2014 and is at its highest level since fall 2011.

ESU continues to enroll increasing numbers of Pennsylvania residents at both the graduate and undergraduate level with increases of 16.9% and 1.7% respectively (+47 grad, +74 UG students).

“This will be the second year in a row that ESU has experienced an enrollment increase, due once again to the outstanding efforts of the entire university community,” President Welsh said. “It reflects the positive impact of a team effort made by the students, faculty and staff to showcase the campus and our academic offerings complimented by the numerous co-curricular and extra-curricular offerings available to our students. We are especially pleased with the enrollment increase given the keen competition for students in our key recruitment territories. It will not surprise you to learn the Admissions staff is already working to recruit the class of 2020!”

“Increases are based on preliminary data which may fluctuate before the official census is released following the close of business on the 15th day of enrollment,” Brenda Friday, Ph.D., director of university relations at ESU, said.
