ESU’s Homecoming Week Calling All Warriors

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania is “Calling All Warriors” to participate in the 2014 Homecoming festivities, which begin on Sunday, October 19. This year’s theme will call on alumni, students, and other visitors to join the ESU community in a spirited celebration of ESU. Homecoming highlights include the debut of “Seussical the Musical” and a home football game against the Kutztown University Golden Bears at Eiler-Martin Stadium on October 25. Sunday, October 19
REC-EX Annual 5K Run and One Mile Walk
Eiler-Martin Stadium
Race check-in and on-site registration at 7:30 a.m.; race will start at 8 a.m.

Monday, October 20
Spirit Kick Off
11 a.m. – 3 p.m., Hoeffner Science and Technology Center Lawn

The ESU family challenges you to grab your megaphone and show your spirit — loudly.

T-shirt Exchange
11 a.m. – 3 p.m., Hoeffner Science and Technology Center Lawn

This is an opportunity to trade in the old for the new. Take the shirt off your back, and grab someone else’s. Bring an old t-shirt you own, and get a homecoming t-shirt in return. All donated shirts will go to the Salvation Army.

Wednesday, October 22
7:30 p.m., Smith McFarland Theater
ESU Theatre Department Presents: Seussical the Musical

ESU students will lead the audience into a lively and imaginative fantasy world in a musical romp that will delight the entire family as they take on the roles of Dr. Seuss’s favorites.

7th Annual Drag Show “The Great Dragsby”
8 – 10 p.m., Keystone Room
Join Sharon Husbands and her crew of professional and student Queens and Kings for a fabulously entertaining evening of glitz and glamour! Help the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Ally Program Center and ESU’s LGBTQA student organization, PRIDE, raise funds to benefit Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) of Monroe County. Tickets will be $2 and available, in advance, from the LGBTQA Program Center in Shawnee Residence Hall, or at the door. If interested in VIP seating, the tickets will be $5.

Thursday, October 23
Movie: Hook
7 – 9 p.m., Pocono Community Theater

Enjoy a free showing of Hook! Audience members may bring the megaphones they receive at Monday’s Spirit Kick Off to the theater to be filled with free popcorn and a canned good or pantry item to receive a free soda. Pantry items will be donated to the Salvation Army Food Bank.

Friday, October 24
Remembrance Day Program
1 – 2 p.m., Keystone Room

ESU’s seventh Remembrance Day program will honor the memories of university students, faculty, staff, and alumni who passed away during the 2013-2014 academic year (August 26, 2013- August 24, 2014). This year’s program will include readings, musical selections, and reflections by ESU students.  This event is open to the public at no cost.

Schisler Museum of Wildlife and Natural History Open House*
6 – 9 p.m., Warren E. ’55 and Sandra Hoeffner Science and Technology Center

Explore the all new Schisler Museum of Wildlife and Natural History, featuring an extensive collection of taxidermied game animals collected from throughout North America donated by Arthur and Fannie Schisler ’62. Tours will occur every half hour.

ESU Planetarium Show: Autumn Skies*
Shows at 7:30 and 8:15 p.m., Warren E. ’55 and Sandra Hoeffner Science and Technology Center

Be mesmerized by this expansive, full-dome video and sound presentation titled “Autumn Skies” on the state-of-the-art Spitz SciDome projection system.

Warrior Spirit Night/Bonfire
7:30 – 9:30 p.m., Rugby Field behind Dansbury

Enjoy a night of Warrior Spirit, including student performances, giveaways and s’mores around a bonfire as ESU gets ready to face off the Kutztown Bears. The homecoming king and queen will be announced at the bonfire.

Saturday, October 25
Warrior Block Party
11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Gated parking lot behind Rosenkrans Hall

It’s time to party like a Warrior. Join student organizations for music, games, prizes, food and fun!

Schisler Museum of Wildlife and Natural History Open House*
11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Warren E. ’55 and Sandra Hoeffner Science and Technology Center

Tours will occur every half hour.

Warrior March into Eiler-Martin Stadium
2 p.m., College Circle

March into Eiler-Martin Stadium to cheer on the Warriors! The march will start in the circle, followed by a left on Prospect Street, left onto Centre Street, and it will end at the Stadium. The march will feature some campus all-stars, including President Welsh, distinguished alumni, and the homecoming king and queen.

ESU Planetarium Show: “Passport to the Universe”*
Shows at 12, 1 and 2 p.m., Warren E. ’55 and Sandra Hoeffner Science and Technology Center

Be mesmerized by this expansive, full-dome video and sound presentation entitled “Passport to the Universe” on the state-of-the-art Spitz SciDome projection system.

“Battle of the Bears” Whiteout Game
Warrior Football, ESU vs. Kutztown
3:05 – 6 p.m., Eiler-Martin Stadium

Cheer on the Warriors as they take on the Kutztown Golden Bears. Halftime features recognition of the Athletic Hall of Fame inductees and a marching band performance. General admission tickets for the game are $10. Tickets for reserved chair back seating area in front of the Eiler-Martin Stadium press box are $15, and tickets for seniors ages 65 or older and children under 12 are $5.This game is a whiteout. We encourage you to wear WHITE.
