East Stroudsburg University invites the general public to attend a sky show, entitled “The Stars of Spring” and a feature show, “Passport to the Universe,” at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013 as part of the university’s week-long celebration of the inauguration of its 13th president, Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D. The shows will be held in the McMunn Planetarium in the Warren E. ’55 and Sandra Hoeffner Science and Technology Center. The shows are open to the general public at no cost.

“Stars of Spring” describes what can be seen in the heavens during the spring months.  The feature show, “Passport to the Universe,” narrated by two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks, treats the audience to realistic close-up views of star fields and planets, taking them on an exhilarating flight through a virtual re-creation of our universe.

Reservations are required due to limited seating. Reservations will be taken online starting at 8:00 a.m., April 1, on a first-come, first-serve basis at www.esu.edu/planetarium. Another planetarium show is scheduled for April 19, 2013. Reservations for this event will be taken the Monday prior to the show. Those interested in attending planetarium events may reserve up to four seats for a specific show. Programs are suitable for children but be advised that the planetarium will be quite dark during the sky show and feature show.

Group inquiries should send an email request to stardomes@po-box.esu.edu. A schedule of planetarium shows for the spring 2013 semester is posted at www.esu.edu/planetarium.  For more information about other inauguration events at ESU during the week of April 1-6, please visit esu.edu/inauguration.
