East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Student Activity Association is hosting its annual Spring Week from April 22-26. Admission is free.

Spring Week 2014 kicks off with the Earth Day celebration from noon to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22. Earth Day was established for the purpose of bringing awareness to environmental concerns, instilling an appreciation for nature’s role in all of our lives and to encourage a sense of action to conserve and protect nature’s frailty. This event, which is on the Quad, offers a vast variety of educational, fun-filled activities. The Earth Day committee is encouraging members of the ESU and local communities to consider setting up a booth or to donate either a product or a service, which can be used by the committee during the celebration for prizes in the environmental trivia game portion of the event.

The afternoon will feature three guest speakers, each of whom will address the audience for 10 minutes, three musical performers, each of whom will play for 45 minutes to an hour, a 30-minute recycle fashion show, trivia games, booths representative of ESU organizations and local businesses, and a tie-dying activity for anyone who wants to bring his or her own cotton piece of clothing to tie-dye.

Also on April 22, the male a cappella group, Ball in the House, will perform in the Keystone Room. Ball in the House is a group of five young men who are following in the harmony footsteps of groups such as the world-renowned Boyz II Men. The five-member vocal band, which offers a mix of classic and contemporary hits, has blended a wide range of influences, from classic R&B to pop and hip-hop along with some gospel. Ball in the House reaches millions and is one of the most successful indie bands today. The group has performed with such artists as The Beach Boys, Gladys Knight, The Jonas Brothers, Jessica Simpson, Fantasia, Blondie, The Temptations and Smokey Robinson.

Doors open at 7 p.m. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. After the performance there will be refreshments and food available. The public is invited.  For more information about the band, visit ballinthehouse.com.

On Wednesday, April 23, Robin Smith, an acoustic musician, will perform at 9 p.m., in Dansbury Commons. WESS radio will host a Spring Jam on Friday, April 25, in Dansbury Commons at 9 p.m.

Closing out Spring Week 2014 will be Community on the Quad on Saturday, April 26, from noon to 4 p.m. The 14th annual event, with a theme of “In the Jungle,” is meant to bring the campus and local communities together for a day filled with giveaways, musical bands, a barbeque picnic, activities and socializing with friends on the Quad.
