ESU’s University/Community Concert Band Presents Spring Band Concert, May 3

Blue Mesa, a new composition by Scranton area composer Barrie Bartle, will premiere at the 28th spring band concert of ESU’s University/Community Concert Band, which will be held on Sunday, May 3 at 7 p.m. in the Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall of the university’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg. The performance is open to the public at no cost.

Bartle is a recently retired music educator who spent more than 30 years teaching in the public schools of two states. He has performed many of his original compositions with his own bands.

Other highlights of the program include: A Childhood Remembered by contemporary American composer Rossano Galante, who is known for his film scores; Festival Prelude by Alfred Reed, a prolific 20th Century American composer; and A Huntingdon Celebration by contemporary British composer Philip Sparke, known for his concert band and brass music.

At the concert, ESU’s percussion ensemble will perform two works, Sands of Africa by Eric Harper and Scuttlebutt by Jim Casella.

Lance Rauh is the director of the University/Community Concert Band. Jim Wilson is the director of the Percussion Ensemble.
