An East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania graduate student, Brittany Elizabeth Glen of Northampton, Pa., recently was awarded a Love of Learning award worth $500 by the national honor society Phi Kappa Phi— the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Glen is pursuing a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and plans on applying funds from the award toward her tuition at ESU.

“I was honored and excited to receive the award as there were more than 900 applicants,” said Glen. “This award has encouraged me to continue to work hard so I can reach my goals.”

This year, Phi Kappa Phi awarded 147 recipients nationwide. All award winners are featured in the upcoming winter edition of Forum magazine. The Love of Learning Awards Selection Committee was impressed with Glen’s “superior academic record and life and career ambitions,” according to the congratulatory letter she received.

The Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning Award program was initiated in 2007 to help fund graduate or professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, career development and travel related to teaching and studies for active society members. The society’s robust award programs grant more than $1 million each biennium to qualifying students and members through graduate fellowships, undergraduate study abroad grants, member and chapter awards and grants for local and national literacy initiatives.
