The partnership between the Pocono Mountains’ Theater Company and East Stroudsburg University’s Department of Theatre will present a staged reading of Laughing Wild, a comedy by Tony-Award winning playwright Christopher Durang on Thursday, April 6 at 7 p.m. in Smith-McFarland Theatre of ESU’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg.

A provocative, inventive, and very funny study of the perils of modern life in urban America, Laughing Wild focuses on two troubled people trying to live in the chaos of New York City. The comedy examines people’s quest for happiness in a heightened reality.

“Mr. Durang is one of the funniest men in the world,” noted The New Yorker, “able to make the audience laugh out loud time and time again, taking us by surprise with his one-of-a-kind jokes and relentless bitter satire.”

The cast will feature Pamela Shaw and Brian Rueter. Daniel Talbot will direct the comedy. The reading, which is recommended for adults and mature high school students, is open to the public at no cost. There is a suggested donation of $5.

Reservations for the reading are recommended, but not required. To make a reservation, email SarahT.Schwab@gmail.com, and include your name, title of the show, and the number of seats requested.
