Adam McGlynnESU Associate Professor of Political Science Adam McGlynn, Ph.D., will be enhancing his classrooms with real world experience after being elected Nazareth Area School Director. After months of campaigning, McGlynn was notified that he will be the representing voice of the Lower and Eastern District of Upper Nazareth Township.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for me to serve my community,” said McGlynn. Writing his dissertation and several articles on education policy reinforced for him the importance of education, which has always been a high priority.

“Serving as school director was always a goal of mine. When the opportunity presented itself, I jumped at it,” he said.

Earlier this year, he started a write-in campaign. McGlynn exhausted many hours standing outside the polls convincing people he deserved their vote.

“I received enough write-in votes so that I was able to be cross-listed as a Democrat and Republican. I was officially elected November 3,” he said.

During his term, McGlynn wants to focus on Pennsylvania’s challenges and decreased school funding without raising property taxes. After being inducted, he will be expected to attend all school board meetings and vote on various policies and personnel matters.

“Cliché or not, I believe that education can change the world,” he said.

McGlynn’s classes at East Stroudsburg University focus heavily on education policy. Having a professor with firsthand knowledge can help political science students understand more in depth what it takes to run in an election.

“I believe this will really help my students. This is a great opportunity to serve and help me be a better professor,” said McGlynn.

McGlynn will be sworn in for his four-year term on Monday, December 7.

Dr.McGlynn,
I didn’t expect anything different. Glad to have been one of your grad students, you’re tireless contribution to education, research and academics isn’t reserved for only those in higher education, others can benefit, too. Congratulations.
