Panic! At the Disco will be taking over East Stroudsburg University’s Mattioli Recreation Center on April 21 at 8 p.m. as the university’s spring concert. Doors open at 7 p.m.

“Students love live music,” Ian Brown, a sophomore majoring in communication studies from Holmes, Pa., and concert chair for the Campus Activities Board (CAB), said. “It draws attention to campus.” Members of CAB, a student organization that focuses on campus life activities, surveyed students last semester to narrow down the concert choices for the spring semester. About 900 students participated in the survey that led to the selection.

The opening act is DJ Reed Streets, a Philadelphia-based artist who mixes some of today’s best alternative with classic tones to warm up the crowd and Secret Weapons, an alternative rock band.
Originally from Las Vegas, childhood friends Spencer Smith and Ryan Ross formed Panic! At the Disco when they were in high school. The band stepped on the alternative music scene on September 27, 2005, with the debut of their first album, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out. Combining electronic punk waves with soothing orchestrated tones was deemed a success as the album went platinum by March of the following year. Later that year, Panic! went on to win an MTV Video Music Award for their single “I Write Sins Not Tragedies,” due to its domination on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

Over the years, personal choices and new career opportunities left Brendon Urie as the only original member in the band.

Urie, the original lead singer, announced he would be releasing his fifth studio album under the band’s name. Death of a Bachelor was released January 15, 2016, with singles “Hallelujah,” “Emperor’s New Clothes,” and “Victorious” taking over the charts.

ESU students may purchase discounted tickets beginning February 22. Discounted tickets are $20 each and are limited to two per student. The public can purchase tickets starting on March 4 at $35 each.
