Change the Lives of Women and Girls Worldwide. See a Free Screening of “Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Girls Worldwide,” at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2 in Abeloff Center for the Performing Arts. Sponsored by Women for Awareness and the Muslim Student Association at ESU, the documentary focuses on the issues of economic empowerment, education, forced prostitution, gender-based violence, maternal mortality and sex trafficking. Special Presentation: Suicide, Healing & A Journey Of Self Reflection, 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the Keystone Room. Thomas Brown and Zachary Chipps decided to bike ride across America in honor of their brothers, whom they lost to suicide. In their first ever college campus appearance after ending their tour on September 30, they will share their experience as social activists. It’s about more than two men on a cross-country bicycle tour and a pilgrimage to raise awareness about suicide. A journey of healing from emotional trauma, and how self-reflection can initiate change in one’s life is revealed in this presentation. Parental discretion advised for under age 14. Pink Light Walk, at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4 in the Keystone Room. The twelfth annual “Pink Light Walk” will begin in the Keystone Room and conclude at the Pocono Medical Center Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center at 206 East Brown Street in East Stroudsburg. The event will begin with registration at 5:00 p.m. and information booths followed by a brief program at 6:00 p.m. The walk will start at 6:15 p.m. The first 500 people to register for the walk will receive a T-shirt and pink glow light candle to carry during the walk. At the conclusion of the walk, participants may enjoy refreshments and participate in a raffle drawing. Play BINGO and Help Raise Money for Cancer Research, at 9:00 p.m., Oct. 9 at the University Ridge (Ridge Community Center). All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. Play 10 games for $3. All games have a prize. The top prize is a $25 dollar gift card! Come have a fun-filled night for a great cause!

“Keys to Success in College and Life” 7:00 p.m., Oct. 11, in the Keystone Room. Dr. Will Keim is known for empowering and motivating individuals and organizations to be more productive, encouraging them to operate with personal and organizational beliefs, and to make character-driven decisions in their daily life. Dr. Keim is coming to ESU to inspire students to become more responsible and make life-giving and empowering choices within the areas of scholarship, community service, peacemaking, character-driven decision making, substance abuse resistance and education, parental relations, and other important areas. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to make a master calendar of their academic responsibilities, make an ethical decision, time management, and improve to live a healthy and wellness centered life. Secondary Education Majors – Screening dates for the 2012 fall semester have been set and are Tuesday, Oct. 23 and Wednesday, Oct. 24. Sign up by appointment only – in Stroud Hall 209 PSED office. Each fall, Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education employees (PASSHE) who are covered by Pennsylvania Employees Benefit Trust Fund (PEBTF) health benefits have an opportunity to review their coverage and make changes for the coming year. This year’s open enrollment period is October 1 – October 19. All changes must be completed in Employee Self Service (ESS) or returned to the university human resources office no later than October 19. All changes made will become effective January 1, 2013.

The Homecoming Pageant Begins at 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3 in the Keystone Room. Candidates for Homecoming are judged in four categories: 1) fundraising for their selected charity; 2) campus and community involvement; 3) an essay regarding why they selected their respective charity; and 4) poise and presentation at the pageant ceremony. The Homecoming king and queen will be announced at the Warrior Spirit Night on Friday, Oct. 5 and also at the Homecoming football game on Oct. 6 during halftime ceremonies.

Warrior Spirit Night, 8:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5. The University Marching Band and the ESU cheerleaders will perform and athletic teams will be introduced. There will be free T-shirts, a wing eating contest and other fun games.

Homecoming Parade, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 6. The parade begins behind the Kemp Library, proceeds through the surrounding neighborhood of the university, and concludes back on campus. For more details and exact parade route, please contact the Office of Student Activities at 570-422-3055.

A Fall Concert The Band “Fun” on Thursday, Nov. 1, in the Mattioli Recreation Center. Tickets are on sale now for ESU students. Tickets cost $15 and are available at the Student Activities Complex from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and in the ESU Convenience Store from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday – Thursday, until 5:00 p.m. on Friday and from noon – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
