ESU’s V.O.I.C.E. Center invites all ESU students, faculty, and staff to witness what happens when Sexual Assault goes to trial in Mock Trial 2014 at 5:00 PM, Tuesday, March 4, and 9:30 PM, Wednesday, March 5, in the Niedbala Auditorium of the Science and Technology Center. The mock trial will be based on Sex @ 7, the Fall 2013 Freshman Orientation skit, will be enacted by Monroe County Law Enforcement Officials and ESU students. The public is invited at no cost. Donations, which will benefit Women’s Resources of Monroe County, will be accepted.

As part of Women’s History Month the Women’s Studies program is sponsoring an event entitled Women in Sports from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, Wednesday, March 5, in Stroud Hall 117. The event will include film clips and a discussion of the importance of sports for women. Presenters include Nancy Jo Greenawalt, D. Ed., and Paula Parker, Ed.D. Other presenters will be announced. The public is invited at no cost.

ESU’s inaugural Novel Writing Mini-Marathon for ESU students concludes on, Thursday, March 6, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the reception room on the second floor of the University Center. Students who have participated in the first half of the program, a four-hour, novel writing marathon at Kemp Library’s writing studio on March 1, will read excerpts from their completed novels. They will also share their thoughts about the creative process while they are part of a moderated panel. This event is open to the public at no cost.

A Stroudsburg Town Hall Meeting, is 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, March 6, in the Abeloff Center for the Performing Arts. Financial Planners Group of America will discuss the economy, healthcare, estate planning, property taxes and identity theft. The public is invited at no cost.

ESU alumna Mary Ellen McNish, president and CEO of The Hunger Project, will give a presentation at ESU about empowerment and the importance of reaching out to change people’s lives, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, March 6, in Beers Lecture Hall. The public is invited at no cost.

ESU will present a University-wide Talent Show from 7:30 to 9:30 PM, Friday, March 7, at Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall. The public is invited at no cost. For more information, call 570-422-3483 or email esuarts@esu.edu.

Local artists, art enthusiasts and/or comic book lovers who want to test their creativity and push their artistic limits, are invited to a 12-hour Comic Thon, Friday, March 7, from noon to midnight in Studios 102 and 103 of the Fine and Performing Arts Center. The public is invited at a cost. The $5 registration fee includes all supplies necessary to create a comic book. Participants also are welcome to bring their own supplies. A presentation about Sustainable Fisheries is from 9:00 to 9:50 AM, Friday, March 7, in Monroe B01. James C. Hunt, associate professor of biological sciences and director of marine sciences, will talk about new technologies, inefficient regulation, overzealous industry practices and how poor science have all contributed to the collapse of many fish stocks recently. The public is invited at no cost.

Midterm Madness at the Writing Studio. The Writing Studio is hosting Midterm Madness to help students with all their writing and revising needs. Join us in Kemp Library from March 3 – 7 for one-on-one tutoring, free coffee and snacks, and a quiet study area. Open Monday-Thursday 1:00 to 9:00 PM and Friday 1:00 to 5:00 PM.

Empty Bowls: A Grassroots Movement To Help End Hunger is from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 27, in the Keystone Room. All proceeds donated go to the Salvation Army in East Stroudsburg. Event will include a selection of hand- crafted bowl and soup lunch for $10. To purchase tickets, see Linda in the HRTM Department (across from Stroud). For more info call 570-422-3511.

Secondary Education Majors: Screening dates for the 2014 spring semester are set for Tuesday, April 1 and Wednesday, April 2. Sign up by appointment only in Stroud 209 PSED office. You must appear in person to make an appointment in order to confirm that you have met the proper graduate and undergraduate requirements.

Theatre: March 4 – 8, 8:00 PM; March 9, 2:00 PM Spiked Heels, at the Dale Snow Theatre. This contemporary comedy is about love triangles among a group of friends and co-workers that’s complicated by lust, power and class distinctions. The play is appropriate for older teens and adults due to adult language and situations. The public is invited at a cost. General admission, $12; faculty/staff and senior citizens (with ID), $10; students (with ID), $7; Youth, $5.
