Join us for President Welsh’s Inauguration Week! ESU has GREAT EXPECTATIONS for the exciting schedule of activities planned for the week preceding President Welsh’s inauguration as 13th president. The week-long celebration begins on Mon., April 1, with a faculty and staff kick-off breakfast and a wellness walk. A few of the week’s highlights include a fashion show on Tues., April 2, and an exhibit, reception, and award ceremony organized by the ESU Student Art Association on Wed., April 3. These are just a few of the many scholarly, cultural, and athletic activities planned for Inauguration Week. Being An Active Learner Among New College Experiences B.A.L.A.N.C.E. Will Hold Two Free Workshops February 21 in Beers Lecture Hall. Planning a Major Campus Event: Planning a Concert From Start To Finish, 2:00 – 2:50 PM with presenter Kayshia Kruger, resident adviser/concert chair, Campus Activities Board. Zero Tolerance: Sexual Harassment on Campus, 3:00 – 3:50 PM with presenter Danelle McClanahan, director of diversity/ombudperson.

Women’s History Month Film Series: Miss Representation (2011 Sundance Film Festival Official Selection), 7:00 PM Wed., March 6 in Beers Lecture Hall. This film explores the problems with mainstream media representation of women and how these impact the number of women in influential positions. Also, The Invisible War (2013 Oscar Nominated Documentary), 7:00 PM Wed., March 13 in Beers Lecture Hall.

March 11 – March 15: Midterm Madness – Get Tutoring Help For Writing, 1:00 – 9:00 PM Monday-Thursday and 1:00 – 5:00 PM Friday, at The Writing Studio in the Kemp Library. Free coffee, snacks and a quiet study space. We hope to see you there!

Join the Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA), at 9:00 PM Tues., March 12 at Sarah Street Grill. GPSA will be gathering to support one of ESU’s own graduate students, Regina Sayles, www.reginasayles.com, as she performs live at Sarah Street, www.sarahstreetgrill.com, on Tuesday, March 12 at 9:00 PM Regina is a graduate student in the Instructional Technology program at ESU and performs a range of covers and original music. There is no cover charge for this event! GPSA may be able to provide Pocono Pony bus tickets and/or students can sign up for the ESU Safe Ride program.

Hearts for Sandy Hook Elementary, 9:00 PM March 13, at the University Ridge Community Center. Come to University Ridge and draw or write on a pre-cut heart that will be sent to Newtown’s Elementary School. This is a great way to touch the lives of the students and fill the school with hope and warmth after the tragedy in December. Snacks and drinks provided. Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon, 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM Thursday, March 14 in the Keystone Room. Empty Bowls is a National Organization that supports local food donations in the community. Please join us at our 6th annual event. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from Linda in the Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Management Department, Monday – Friday from 8:30 to 11:30 AM.

The Active Minds Club is Growing – Leadership Positions Available. Anyone with an interest in mental health awareness and a dedication to helping people are welcome. We meet every Thursday at 3:00 PM in Stroud 420. Active Minds seeks to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and getting professional help. With over 260 clubs at colleges nationwide, the national Active Minds members participate in such events relating to National Stress Out Day, Suicide Prevention Week, Depression and Eating Disorders Awareness, to name a few. Winner of the 2002 Tony and Drama Desk awards, The Goat or Who is Sylvia? is a dark comedy that focuses on the limits of an ostensibly liberal society. In a play featuring a family in crisis, playwright Edward Albee challenges audience members to question their own morality in the face of social taboos. New York Times critic Ben Brantley noted, “Four decades after Virginia Woolf’ sent shock waves through the mainstream theater, Mr. Albee still asks questions that no other major American dramatist dares to ask.” Recommended for mature adults only.
