A Strike Out Arthritis Fundraising Event – A “Twister” Tournament Competition, 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, in the Keystone Room. The funds will go toward various juvenile arthritis programs nationwide. Registration for this event is open to the general public, and there is a $3 cost per person to participate. Individual participants will be placed into teams of no more than five to compete on each mat. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided. Move it! Campus wide Bike Ride, Noon on Monday, Oct. 29, at the Steps in Front of Mattioli Recreation Center. ESU students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in this lunchtime bike ride across campus. The Route: The ride begins at the Mattioli Recreation Center and will take participants down Normal Street to the ESU circle, up Center Street past the stadium to University Ridge and to the Rec. Center. Bring your own bike. Helmets are strongly recommended. Rain location at spinning studio in Mattioli Rec. Center. For more information, contact sdietrich@esu.edu.

ESU’s Political Science Department and Chapter of The American Democracy Project Will Sponsor a Mock Presidential Debate at 7:00 p.m., Monday, Oct. 29 in the Abeloff Center for the Performing Arts. Entrepreneurs on Entrepreneurship Seminars – Seminar 2: Legally Structuring Your Business, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the ESU Innovation Center, 562 Independence Road. Graduate & Professional Student Association (GPSA) Meeting, at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, in the DeNike Conference Room. GPSA seeks to enhance the advanced learning, research, scholarship, leadership and professional service experiences of graduate and professional students at ESU. GPSA will serve as a forum for graduate students to share opportunities and concerns they experience as students and empower members to suggest opportunities for student activities. It will also recommend solutions to current issues to enhance the graduate student experience at the university. All ESU registered students are eligible to participate with the understanding that GPSA focuses on aspects of graduate student life. “Trick or Treat through the Halls” 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the Quad. The event, sponsored by ESU’s Residence Hall Association (RHA), is open to all elementary aged children in the community at no cost. Participating children are asked to wear their costumes and bring a trick- or-treat bag. Parents are required to accompany children to campus and must remain present throughout the course of the event. Parents may choose to escort their child(ren) through the residence halls or sit in a common area while the event takes place. Groups will be escorted from hall to hall by student volunteers from the education department and various campus organizations. Participating students will hand out treats from their dormitory rooms. Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education – Second Annual Student Business Plan Competition. Do you have an idea for a new business? The 3rd Annual Eid Dinner, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in the Keystone Room. Eid-Ul-Adha, also known as the Greater Eid, is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide. Middle Eastern and South Asian cuisine will be served along with a short religious lecture. Henna, a Piñata, Arabic calligraphy, and a guest speaker will be among highlights of the evening. The public is invited. Tickets are $3 for students, $5 for adults, and $20 for families of five or more. The Muslim Student Association (MSA) is hosting the event. Diwali – Festival of Lights 2012, 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, in the Keystone Room. The word “Diwali” is the modern version of the Sanskrit word “Deepavali” which means rows of light and so the celebrations are often referred to as the “Festival of Lights.” The festival symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and focuses on appreciating the goodness in everyone – friend or foe. Diwali festivals are celebrated by a billion people in South Asia and elsewhere in the diaspora annually. Stony Acres Hosts A Paintball Event, 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4. The cost is $15 per ESU student and $25 for non-students. Paintballs, equipment and food are included! Note Date Change: The Band FUN, Doors Open at 7:00 p.m., Thursday Nov. 8, in the Mattioli Recreation Center. Tickets are on sale now for ESU students. Tickets cost $15 and are available at the Student Activities Complex from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and in the ESU Convenience store from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday – Thursday, until 5:00 p.m. on Friday and from noon – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. A Bus Trip to the Christmas Spectacular Show, Saturday, Nov. 17, in NYC. Ticket prices are $40 for ESU students and $70 for guests. The bus will depart from the Science & Technology Center at noon. Spend several hours of free time in NYC for sightseeing and shopping. Show time is 7 p.m. The bus will return to ESU campus following the show. The Campus Activities Board sponsors the event. Auditions for the Spring Production of The Goat or Who is Silvia? 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., Monday, Oct. 22 and Wednesday, Oct. 24, in the Smith-McFarland Theatre.
