Student Trustee Applications: Eligible students who are interested in the position of Student Trustee must submit an application and two letters of recommendation no later than September 15, 2014. Attention Graduate Students: Please note the Deadline to submit an Intent to Graduate application for December 2014 graduation

Latino Heritage Month Second Annual Film Festival, September 13 – September 21 in Beers Lecture Hall. The best of contemporary 2013 and 2014 feature fi lms and documentaries from Spain, Latin America, and the United States will be shown. The public is invited at no cost. Some fi lms are for mature audiences only. Parking is free, except for metered spaces. ESU Raises Awareness for Suicide Prevention with Walk, Movie and Lecture by Award-Winning Speaker, Author and Mental Health Advocate at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, September 30 in the Keystone Room. ESU will be the host site for the Out of the Darkness Community Walk to raise funds to support suicide awareness followed by a presentation by Kevin Hines, an award- winning international speaker, author and mental health advocate who survived a suicide attempt. Registration for the walk will begin at 5:15 PM at the Hoeffner Science and Technology Center located on Normal Street. The walk will commence at 6:00 PM The Hines lecture will commence at 7:00 PM The documentary, “The Bridge,” will be shown at Pocono Community Theater at 7:00 PM, Sunday, September 28, admission free. Support for Workforce Training Through WEDnetPA: ESU’s Office of Workforce Development was awarded $274,688 for fiscal year 2014-15 to support workforce training through the Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania (WEDnetPA). Funding for WEDnetPA is provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). The WEDnetPA Program provides qualified companies with funds to train their employees in the areas of “Essential Skills” (up to $450 per eligible employee, maximum of $75,000 per company) and “Advanced Technology Skills” (up to $850 per eligible employee, maximum of $50,000 per company). Funding is available primarily to manufacturing and information technology-based industries including financial, biotech and environmental companies. The deadline to apply for WEDnetPA training funds is Tuesday, September 30, 2014. East Stroudsburg University is a certified WEDnetPA partner authorized to apply for funding on a company’s behalf. The 14th Annual Pink Light Walk Plans to Heighten Awareness of Breast Cancer, Thursday, October 9, at 5:30 PM in the Keystone Room and Conclude at the Pocono Medical Center Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center at 206 East Brown Street in East Stroudsburg. Breast cancer survivors will join
ESU students and community members. The event will begin with registration at 5:00 PM and information booths followed by a brief program at 6:00 PM The walk will start at 6:15 PM The fi rst 600 people to register for the walk will receive a t-shirt and pink glow light candle to carry during the walk. A Free Lecture – Pulitzer Prize Finalist To Speak at ESU About Son’s Odyssey with Mental Illness, 7:00 PM, Wednesday, October 15 in the Niedbala Auditorium. Pete Earley will discuss his experiences and what he found in the broader mental health system. A former Washington Post reporter, Earley is the author of three novels and 10 nonfiction books, including the New York Times bestseller, “The Hot House: Life Inside Leavenworth Prison.” This talk is being held in conjunction with National Depression and Mental Health Screening Month. National Depression Screening Day is Oct. 9 and free depression screenings will be held Oct. 6-10 around the region. Appointments are suggested but walk-ins are welcome. ESU’s Office of Workforce Development Named ETS-Praxis- Testing Center. Testing center is located in the ESU Innovation Center (Computer Lab 153) located at 562 Independence Road in East Stroudsburg, Pa. ETS-Praxis computer based exams will be offered every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 AM To register for an exam visit www.ets.org/praxis and follow the appropriate links to register. The Curriculum Materials Center at the Kemp Library on the Ground Floor Supports ESU’s Teacher Education Curriculum with an organized collection of current and high quality educational materials created for use with children from preschool through grade 12 (secondary education). It includes, but is not limited to, textbooks, curriculum guides, children’s and young adult literature, educational tests and measures, posters, science kits, models and ancillary instructional materials. Lamination services and letter cut die machines are also available at NO cost! Professors may request a visit to their classroom in order to inform students about the ample resources the CMC has to offer or reserve the CMC for classroom instruction. Sigma Phi Omega, the Gerontology Honor Society at ESU, is Collecting Pet Food to be given to Home bound Pet Owners through Monroe County Meals on Wheels. A Student Organization Orientation Session will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 16 in the Keystone Room. The session will cover important information on maintaining your student organization recognition, policies and procedures that will assist your organization to operate effectively and Fall Grants and other budgeting information. Officer Specific Training will be Offered for Student Organization Presidents, Vice Presidents, Secretaries and Treasurers, 6:00 PM, Wednesday, September 17 in the University Center. Anyone 16 or older is welcome to join no later than Monday, September 22. Members are expected to have previous band experience. There is no membership fee.
