East Stroudsburg University’s Office of University Advancement welcomed more than 60 former Warrior football players and supporters to its first “Warrior Huddle” on Monday, April 21, at Detzi’s Tavern in Wind Gap, Pa. The event was hosted by Joe, Jeff and John Detzi, class of 1979 and owners of Detzi’s Tavern, and included special guests, including ESU President Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D., ESU Athletic Director Tom Gioglio, Ed.D., and Head Football Coach Denny Douds.

While alumni reconnected with old friends, the event also celebrated the gift of scholarship to benefit the Warriors Football Club, one of the many membership opportunities through the Warriors Athletic Club. Established in 2004 to assist ESU in strengthening its athletic programs, the Warriors Athletic Club has become the largest annual fundraising program for men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports at ESU.

“We are grateful to the Detzi brothers for hosting our first Warrior Huddle. It is a longstanding ESU tradition of Warrior spirit that brought so many athletes together for this event. It’s what keeps them engaged with the football program beyond graduation,” said President Welsh. “Support from our graduates provides scholarships for our student athletes so they can be competitive in the PSAC – regionally and nationally – while also receiving a quality education.”
