Weekly Construction Update (43)

Following is the expected site construction activity for the week of August 15, 2011

  1. Building ‘A’ – 100% of the masonry work is complete for Building ‘A’ including the one story main lounge area in the court yard. Installation of the elevators, hardy board, aluminum fascia, soffits and gutters is on-going. Installation of interior hollow metal door and interior suite wood door frames & doors and kitchenette and lavatory cabinets and countertops are currently in the process of installation. Gypsum wall board installation is approximately 95% complete and primer and first coat of finish paint is on-going.
  2. Work to repair the north crosswalk to Kemp Library in Smith Street will begin this week. This will only require a partial road shut-down and flag men will be present for traffic monitoring. Installation of sidewalks along Smith and Normal Streets are complete and finish grading has begun in preparation for landscaping. Sidewalk work is well underway in the court yard area. Road repairs in the south side of Building ‘A’ along Normal Street have begun and the parallel parking adjacent to Kemp Library on Smith Street and angled parking on Normal Street will be re-striped on Saturday for parking to resume on Monday. Construction fences will be re-aligned between Building ‘A’ and this sidewalk for pedestrian safety.
  3. Building ‘B’ – Installation of masonry on all exterior facades is on-going as well as installation of gypsum wall board on interior walls. Installation of hardy board and aluminum fascia, soffit and gutters is well underway on the south and west facades. Installation of gypsum wall board is 90% complete on all floors on the west wing, as well as the liquid self-leveling floor compound, poured to approximately ¾” in thickness is 90% complete on the first, second and third floor of this wing is 90% complete and the fourth floor will be completed mid-week. Installation of hollow metal and interior suite wood door frames & doors, and curtain wall system will continue.
  4. Work is progressing well for the Basin 1A, infiltration system and the new 117 car parking lot adjacent to Lenape and Hawthorn Residence Halls. Installation of the underground Infiltration system components is complete and the second part of underground pipe systems will begin this week in preparation to complete all underground infiltration system work in the area. This parking lot is tentatively scheduled to open 7 November 2011. Work is scheduled to begin to remove existing old steam pipe from outside the perimeters of Basin 1A infiltration system behind Dansbury Commons. Pedestrian traffic will be closed north of Isabelle Street as well as the asphalt walk way north of Dansbury Commons. Installation of construction fences and erosion control measures have been installed for pedestrian safety and excavation to begin for this work.
  5. Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) and Fire Sprinkler rough-ins is 99% complete for Building ‘A’ and 90% complete for Building ‘B’. Work continues throughout both buildings for MEP and fire sprinkler work, exterior wall insulation as well as sound-batt insulation between suites and floors. Remaining HVAC work for Building ‘A’ is to make final HVAC make-up air duct work connections in the basement and attic mechanical rooms and are scheduled to be completed within two weeks.
  6. Restoration of the Lenape parking lot and Hemlock parking lot is tentatively scheduled to begin late this week to be completed by 26 August 2011. This work was delayed to complete all sidewalk improvements along the north side of Building ‘A’ and this parking lot.
  7. NOTICE: The pedestrian walkway from Lenape Hall to the south side of Hemlock Hall (Area between Building ‘A’ and Hemlock Hall) will be closed this week for installation of sidewalks, site improvements and parking lot repairs. Access to the main entrance of Hemlock Hall remain available from Hawthorn Hall and access to Lenape Hall will be via Smith Street.

As a reminder, following is the expected impact around this construction activity:

  1. Noise. During this period, construction activity around the sites will generate noise . This activity will continue until 19 August 2011. University Approved Construction Vehicle warm-up begins at 6:30 AM and Construction Activity will start at 7:00 AM.
  2. Parking. Parking has been affected in the Lenape parking lot due to excavation work between Building ‘A and Hemlock Hall. The Hawthorn Parking Lot will also remain closed indefinitely for the Basin 1A, infiltration system site work. Isabelle Street has temporarily become a ‘dead-end’ street but continues to provide access into Hawthorn Hall, Flager-Metzgar Center, and the DGS Building, including the Facilities Management Annex. All pedestrian sidewalks around Hawthorn remain in service.
  3. Safety. You are reminded to stay outside the construction fence and remain alert to slow moving construction vehicles exiting and entering the site. Please observe all construction rerouting signs.

NOTICE: In cooperation with The P. Agnes Construction Team and Campus Police, a fire drill will be exercised by the East Stroudsburg Fire Department in Building ‘A’ and ‘B’ on the evening of Monday, 22 August 2011. This is only a drill and a informational exercise planning event.
