Books for pre-school through young adult readers are available in the children’s and young adult literature collections on the ground floor of the library adjacent to the CMC. The collection is divided into four sections:
- Easy books (pre-school to grade 3 reading level)
- Fiction books (grade 4 to grade 8) and YA–young adult/teen literature (grade 9 to grade 12)
- Biography (all reading levels)
- Non-fiction (all reading levels)
Separate collections of Newbery, Caldecott, and Michael Printz Award books are also maintained.
Award medallions and labels indicate other medal books and honor books (i.e. Coretta Scott King, Pura Belpre, and Robert Siebert, etc.).
The children’s collection has recently expanded to include Spanish and bilingual (with parallel text) children’s books.
A bulletin board and display case feature award winners, special topics and literacy items, and events relating to children and young adult books.
The collections are primarily designed for students’ use in education and reading courses as well as for the faculty members teaching these courses.
Children’s books are charged out with your university eCard for the usual borrowing period.
If you have any questions or suggestions for additions to the collection or wish to discuss the use of children’s literature in your classes, please see the Educational Resources Librarian or call (570) 422-3760.
