Hardware/Software Requirements of LAMPS
Hardware Requirements
Any UNIX-based machine should be able to run the LAMPS programs.
So far, it has been successfully run on the following machines:
- SUN/sparc
- Convex/c1
- CRAY
- HPUX/9000
- SONY/NEWS
- Stardent
- IBM/RS-6000
- SGI/IRIX
- IBM/Alpha
Software Requirements
The programs are written in FORTRAN 77 and C. You must have a FORTRAN
77 compiler and a UNIX operating system.
The graphics are handled by NCAR Graphics. You need to have this software
available to use the graphics programs.
Be aware that each machine might have its own way of handling NCAR
graphics. Usually, one needs to enter a `plot' mode, through commands
such as plt, ictrans or idt.
User Requirements
Before one attempts to use LAMPS, it is strongly recommended that the user
become familiar with the computer operating system (i.e., UNIX), the NCAR
graphics library (for plotting any graphs that are made) and an editor (for
editing files). This documentation will assume that the user is familiar with
these things.
A couple of help files have been included in the package if you are unfamiliar with
any of these (look in the docs/help subdirectory of the package).
