Global Week is ESU’s largest campus-wide initiative that engages our community in cultural celebration of international traditions, as well as conversations of diversity, social justice, equality, and service.
GLOBAL WEEK : MOSAIC
APRIL 2-7, 2018
“East Stroudsburg University is a MOSAIC—a a beautiful pattern produced by arranging together small colored pieces of culture, history, and endurance found within our diverse and vibrant community, combining the best in all of us forming a complex and coherent whole.”
Global Week 2018 : MOSAIC is in the planning stage, but we already have events that will explore the beauty of our colorful community, while exploring issues of diversity, equality and service.
Events currently in the schedule include:
World Fair: The largest event of week right at the front of campus. International music and food surround a large fair with activities from around the world, including China, the Caribbean, the Amazon Jungle, Brazil… and did we mention the visit of a live camel, yak, lama and more friends from the animal world! Not to mention a giant teepee where we learn how the first inhabitants of the Americas lived. This is one event you don’t want to miss.
Tunnel of Oppression: An interactive event that is intended to highlight contemporary issues of oppression. The tunnel of Oppression is an eye-opening, consciousness raising and immersive experience. Participation in this program will stimulate thoughts, feelings, and emotions around the issues and images being portrayed.
Disability Simulation: As part of Global Week, we will take time to learn and explore our differences in a way many of us overlook—ability. Take a time and put yourself in someone else’s shoes and participate in this hands on activity where we experience living with disabilities while removing old stereotypes about a productive community in our society.
Through Their Eyes Conference: This event is devoted to individuals with disabilities and the challenges they have faced, how they have overcome such challenges and succeeded in life.
ESU Warriors Going Global: Discover how Warriors can venture out into the world to meet new people, learn about different ways of life, and gain perspectives in ways never imagined. Join us to have your questions answered about which countries and universities you can visit, how to make your journey affordable, and how the credits you earn can work toward your degree at ESU and a minor in International Studies. Have your questions answered and gain tips to help you explore the world.
Relay for Life: Participate in The American Cancer Society ‘Relay For Life.’ This overnight event is a life-changing experience that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.
International Festival: We culminate an exciting seven days of community, learning, and service with an exciting international celebration—The International Festival, sponsored by the International Student Organization. This ESU tradition includes international food, fashion show, activities, presentations, performers, DJ, and a lot of excitement. Take a trip around the world with friends from diverse backgrounds showcasing the best their cultures have to offer.
