Fernando Alcantar-sm

Fernando is the Director of Student Engagement for the Student Activity Association, Inc. at East Stroudsburg University. He oversees student activities, commuter student services, leadership programs, and Global Week. He is the advisor for the National Society of Leadership and Success, Commuter Council, and Latin American Association.

Fernando has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University, in the Los Angeles, CA area. He was on top of his class and recognized as the most creative and effective presenter in the program, and the resident expert on emerging leaders.

Before his time at ESU, he was Senior Coordinator of North American Partnerships for APU, supervising international relations and service projects with thousands of volunteers from the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He was then Director of Leadership Development for Young People for the Center for Leadership Excellence in Pasadena, CA, overseeing leadership and diversity programs across Southern California and Hawaii. He was then Director of Student Life for Utah State University Eastern, overseeing leadership programs, multicultural programs, civic engagement, and residence life.

He published his first book, To the Cross and Back: An Immigrant’s Journey from Faith to Reason, on November 30, 2015 and continues to speak around the country on issues of leadership, equality, and social justice. He is an avid adventurer, advocate for equality, and leadership enthusiast.

Description: Strengths Finder is a self-help model designed by Marcus Buckingham and Donald O. Clifton. This includes an online personal assessment test which will outline the user’s strengths, focusing on building these strengths rather than focusing on weaknesses. Each adult individual possesses a certain number of fixed universal personal-character attributes which, together, result in an individual’s tendency to develop certain skills more easily and excel in certain fields in a sustainable way while failing or not being able to sustain success or high levels of effectiveness in other fields.

Title: Myers Briggs Personality Test

Presenter: Fernando Alcántar, MA

Description: Upon completion of a questionnaire, participants will obtain your 4-letter type formula according to Carl Jung’s and Isabel Briggs Myers’ typology, along with the strengths of preferences and the description of their personality type. They will discover careers and occupations most suitable for their personality type along with examples of educational institutions where you can get a relevant degree or training. And they will have a better understanding of communication and learning styles of their type.

Title: Stages of Personal Leadership

Description: This workshop is based on  Janet O. Hagberg’s book, Real Power: Stages of Personal Power in Organizations. The book describes power and leadership as a journey of self-discovery while providing descriptions, insights, and testimonies for each step. She mentions five stages of leadership and a stalling period she calls “The Wall.” Each step in leadership has unique qualities, specific results, and particular needs of improvement she calls, in Carl Jung’s terms, shadows.
