Dr. McAuliffe Straus chaired of the panel. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sarah Pomales, a political science major from Philadelphia, Pa., returned to her hometown on Saturday, November 9 to present research at Northeast Political Science Association\u2019s 51<sup>st<\/sup> annual meeting. The Conference took place at the Wyndham Hotel from November 7-9.<\/p>\n<p>The Northeastern Political Science Association (NPSA) is one of the leading regional professional organizations in the United States for the study of politics. Every year, at its annual conference, the NPSA brings together hundreds of political scientists from all fields of study and from all parts of the United States and the world for the purpose of enhancing and expanding their knowledge of politics.<\/p>\n<p>Pomales sat on an undergraduate panel entitled &#8220;Gender and Ethnicity in American Politics.\u201d Her research entitled \u201cRepresentation of Minority Women in the Legislative Process\u201d examined the legislative agenda of ten newly elected minority women in Congress during their first 100 days in office. Using a comparative analysis, the findings suggest that these minority women prioritized issues regarding race, gender, and the protection of the minorities that they represent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe experience of being able to sit on a panel and discuss my research was so fulfilling,\u201d said Pomales. \u201cThe encouragement from my peers in political science provided a newfound sense of gratitude. I am grateful for such an invaluable educational experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pomales was accompanied to the conference by Kimberly S. Adams, Ph.D., professor of political science.
