The Scranton Wilkes-Barre Team RWB Chapter and East Stroudsburg University Student Veterans Center held a Moving Tribute on Thursday in honor of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and in service to their country since that date.
Working with the national organization, Team RWB (Red, White and Blue), the staff of ESU’s Student Veterans and Scott Dietrich, Ph.D., assistant professor of athletic training, organized nearly 200 people from various volunteer groups across campus. They were joined by active duty military, first responders and community members.
Those who contributed included ESU ROTC, Enrollment Services staff, Student Activities leaders, ESU President Marcia Welsh, Ph.D., and the presidents’ council, Speech Pathology students and ESU’s football and women’s volleyball teams.
These volunteers carried the American flag in 30-minute shifts on and around the university grounds today to pay tribute to the victims of September 11 and to show pride in the valiant service of those who have served or are serving our country in the armed forces.
The flag traveled close to 25 miles throughout campus, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“This was the perfect opportunity to come together as a community and show our gratitude and strength, demonstrating that America can overcome all challenges,” said Dietrich. “Ms. June Pepe and ESU senior Political Science major Paul Reidmiller, a Navy veteran, were a great help in organizing today’s event.”
