East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania will host a Veterans Day Celebration on Thursday, November 6, from 2 – 4 p.m. to recognize local veterans and men and women in all branches of the armed services.
The celebration will be held in the Keystone Room in the Center for Hospitality Management. A military observance will include a wreath laying ceremony and three-volley salute adjacent to the “Julia” statue at the front campus circle. Julia was originally acquired by East Stroudsburg State Normal School (ESSNS) alumni in 1919 to commemorate and honor the school’s servicemen and women who died in World War I.
The event will feature keynote speaker Glen Lippincott, who volunteers at VALOR Clinic, Touch of Home, and the Monroe County Veterans Association — the association that hosts the annual Veterans Day Parade in the community on November 9. Former Air Force Technical Sergeant Arthur Wright, a graduate student from Pittsburgh, Pa., and Marine veteran Martin Lacayo, academic success coach at ESU, will provide remarks during the ceremony. Army National Guard Michaela Couch, a freshman majoring in criminal justice from Shippensburg, Pa., will preside over the Veterans Day celebration, which is open to the general public and free of charge.
Local veterans’ organizations will host an information fair at 3 p.m. in the Keystone Room to give veterans a chance to learn about the memberships and benefits they offer. Refreshments will be served.
Visitors to ESU’s campus may find additional parking at the Innovation Center, located at the intersection of Brown Street and Route 447 in East Stroudsburg. Shuttle buses will transport visitors to and from the Keystone Room for the celebration.
The celebration program in the Keystone Room will proceed as follows:
