Student Honor Society Held Pet Food Drive

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s chapter of Sigma Phi Omega, the national honor society in gerontology, held a pet food drive throughout September and October for individuals served by Monroe County Meals on Wheels who have difficulty accessing food for their pets.

“As gerontology students, they need to learn about the needs of a wide variety of older adults,” Elaine Shuey, professor and chair of speech-language pathology, said. “This includes individuals who have pets they love, but for whom it is difficult to get food— either cost wise, or travel wise.”

This is the second year that Sigma Phi Omega held the pet food drive, and they are planning on continuing it in the future. After the food was collected, it was dropped off to Monroe County Meals on Wheels.
