ESU Alumnus Named Deputy Director of SBA Eastern Pennsylvania District Office

Michael T. Kane M’07 is the newest deputy director for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Eastern Pennsylvania District Office. In this position, he will help manage delivery of SBA programs and services to small businesses throughout the eastern 40 counties of Pennsylvania.
“I am pleased to announce Mike’s promotion to deputy director of the Eastern Pennsylvania District Office,” said SBA Eastern Pennsylvania Director Tony Leta. “His experience and leadership will serve him well in his new role as he continues to be a great asset to our team and more importantly to our small business community.”
“I’m very excited to take on this challenge and I look forward to doing great things for small businesses all across eastern Pennsylvania,” Kane said. “Our District Office has a strong history of accomplishment in support of the businesses we serve, and I look forward to continuing that tradition.”
Kane first joined SBA in 2007. In addition to his role as deputy director, he also serves as the Small Business Development Center Project Officer, monitoring and reviewing the SBDC Network throughout Pennsylvania.
Previously, Kane served as SBA’s Harrisburg branch manager, covering south central Pennsylvania and as an economic development specialist covering the Lehigh Valley region. He has also served as the program manager for the Emerging Leaders Initiative, a successful training program for urban businesses in Philadelphia and throughout the nation.
Before joining SBA, Michael held positions as an analyst for the Department of Defense: Office of Program Analysis and Evaluation, as a sales representative for Alltel Telecommunications, and as branch rental manager for Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
Kane holds a Master of Science in management and leadership – public administration from East Stroudsburg University, and a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Monmouth University.
The Eastern Pennsylvania District Office carries out SBA’s mission to assist small businesses to start, grow and succeed throughout the 40 counties of eastern Pennsylvania. Helping small businesses gain access to capital, counseling and government contracting opportunities, the district office provided technical assistance through its resource partner network and $426.4 million in SBA-backed loans were made to small businesses in fiscal year 2014 by its lending partners.
