ESU Hosts Second Speed Networking Event for Faculty

Faculty members were given only three minutes to talk about their research at the second annual speed networking event last month.
Jazz music filled the room as faculty moved quickly from chair to chair to tell individuals about their research. The process used in the speed networking event mimics the popular speed dating method. Much like speed dating, faculty members had the opportunity to pique one another’s interest by meeting and talking about their work in timed, short interactions. The event provided the opportunity for faculty to discuss ideas for interdisciplinary research projects, which would be supported by external grants.
“This was a wonderful opportunity to build community and connections,” Doug Lare, Ph.D., professor of professional and secondary education, said. “I would love to attend an event like this every semester.”
Elaine Shuey, Ph.D., professor and chair of speech-language pathology, spoke to Shawn Munford, Ph.D., assistant professor of exercise science, about working on voice conservation with future coaches.
Weich Xu, Ph.D., assistant professor of business management, was able to collaborate with Chad Witmer, associate professor of exercise science, on developing a mobile app to apply to exercise research.
This event is hosted by the university’s office of the provost and office of sponsored projects and research.
