Provost’s Colloquium Series Continues with Hitchcock Reframed

As part of East Stroudsburg University’s Spring 2017 Provost’s Colloquium Series, Stephanie Daventry French, professor of theatre and Paul Lippert, professor of communication, will give a talk titled Hitchcock Reframed on Tuesday, February 28, at 6:30 p.m. in the Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall of ESU’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg.

This talk will introduce and discuss the ESU theatre production The 39 Steps. The department of theatre is responsible for all aspects of the production including play selection, directing, acting, design and technical elements.

The production follows the talk on the same day and begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Dale Snow Theatre, also in the Fine & Performing Arts Center. Advance purchase of tickets for the play is highly recommended at esu.edu/theatretickets. Tickets are not required for the talk.

Hitchcock meets hilarious in this blend of movie masterpiece, juicy spy story, and Monty Python mayhem. The 39 Steps is a fast-paced, frolicking, whodunit. Winner of the 2008 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience, this treat is packed with nonstop laughs, an abundance of zany characters (played by a small cast), an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance. The New York Times called the riotous blend of virtuoso performances and wildly inventive stagecraft “Theatre at its finest… Absurdly enjoyable! This gleefully theatrical riff on Hitchcock’s film is fast and frothy…”

The 39 Steps runs Tuesday, February 28 through Sunday, March 5, and is directed by French. More information can be found on the theatre website at esu.edu/theatretickets.
