Adam McGlynn, Ph.D., associate professor of political science at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, co-authored a research paper with two of his political science students. They presented the paper, titled “Examining Exit Poll Data in a Northeastern Pennsylvania Swing County,” at the 2017 Northeastern Political Science Association Annual Conference in Philadelphia on November 9.
Blair Williams ’16 from Millrift, Pa., and Matthew Deegan, a senior majoring in political science from Langhorne, Pa., joined Dr. McGlynn in the research and presentation of the paper. The paper analyzed data from an exit poll conducted during the 2016 presidential election by Dr. McGlynn’s Political Behavior course as a class project. The paper found that Monroe County voters most concerned about the economy were more likely to support Donald Trump while voters who supported Hillary Clinton demonstrated more concern over racism and other social issues. The authors plan to revise the paper and submit it for publication in a peer-reviewed political science journal.
