East Stroudsburg University’s Madelon Powers Gallery will feature paintings and drawings by international artist Kulvinder Kaur Dhew in an exhibit, Kulvinder Kaur Dhew: Recent Work, February 9 through March 8.
“For me, painting is an existential exercise in communicating time and place,” Kaur Dhew said. “As the activities of editing and curating expressions of self become more contingent on various technological platforms, painting demonstrates a vital, sensory notion of the power of humanity to attempt an act of beauty.”
Born and raised in England, Kaur Dhew earned her Master of Arts in painting at the Royal College of Art in London. Her work is included in collections as diverse as Kazuo Ishiguru and MTV Europe.
Kaur Dhew has received numerous fellowships including Delfina Trust in London, ARCO in Lisbon, and most recently at the Vermont Studio Center. She has taught at universities in the U.K., New Zealand, Borneo and the United States.
Hours for the Madelon Powers Gallery, located in ESU’s Fine & Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg, are 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
A reception for the exhibit will be held Friday, February 9 from 3-5 p.m. in the gallery.
The exhibit and reception are open to the public at no cost. For information, email esuarts@esu.edu or call 570-422-3483, ext. 1.
