As part of East Stroudsburg University’s Spring 2018 Provost’s Colloquium Series Johan Eliasson, Ph.D., professor of political science, will present, “Trade Agreements: The Myths, Controversy, and How They Affect You” in Beers Lecture Hall on Wednesday April 4, 2018 at 5:30 p.m.

Trade agreements affect every citizen. According to Dr. Eliasson trade is now debated in the public realm at an unprecedented extent. Civil society organizations and labor unions have stirred up opposition to them, and business organizations often advocate the benefits. Eliasson will discuss the controversy surrounding modern trade agreements.

Eliasson has studied trade agreements (their content, organized opposition groups, various lobbying efforts, and social media use) for over a decade, and has authored numerous research papers and reports. He has also given presentations on various aspects of trade, focusing in particular on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership negotiations between the United States of America and Europe. Over the past four years he has been working with an economist at Barcelona University, and they are finishing a book on the controversy surrounding transatlantic trade negotiations.

The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information about the Provost’s Colloquium Series, contact Christina McDonald, director, office of sponsored projects and research, at (570) 422-7954 or cmcdonald9@esu.edu.
