As part of East Stroudsburg University’s Spring 2018 Provost’s Colloquium Series, Olivia Carducci, Ph.D., associate professor of mathematics; Laurene Clossey, Ph.D., associate professor of sociology, social work, and criminal justice; LuAnn Batson-Magnuson, Ph.D., associate professor of communication sciences and disorders; and Beth Rajan Sockman, Ph.D., professor of professional and secondary education, will present “Service Learning: Explore the Possibilities,” in Beers Lecture Hall on Wednesday March 28, 2018 at 5:30 p.m.
The presenters are all longtime members of ESU’s Service Learning Initiative Committee and have incorporated service learning experiences in their classes. Spanning a variety of disciplines and course levels, each of these courses provides an opportunity for ESU students to engage with the community, expand their understanding of course material, and develop an appreciation for their responsibility to use their talents to support others.
The presenters will discuss what service learning is, the best practices of service learning, and their experiences in implementing service learning in their respective disciplines. The presenters will also communicate the types of support available to faculty members interested in adding service learning to their courses. Members of the audience will have the opportunity to participate in a service project during the presentation.
