As part of East Stroudsburg University’s Provost’s Colloquium Series, Richard Otto, Ph.D., and Jason Engerman, Ph.D., both assistant professors of digital media technologies at ESU, will present a “live gaming” event – in which two or more players compete in real time and live before an audience in an electronic video game – in Rosenkrans East on Wednesday April 25, 2018 from 8 – 10 p.m.
Dr. Engerman has a Ph.D. from the learning, design and technologies program, within The Pennsylvania State University. He was the Charles M. Reigeluth emerging researcher for 2017 from the Association for Educational Communication and Technology (AECT). He was chosen previously as the (inaugural) 2016 AECT Presidential emerging leader recipient. His varied academic interests include the complexities of human interactions and social relationships with technology through the learning sciences. He is also heavily involved in the research of interactive media for the emerging experience age including the area of Esports and various augmented and mixed virtual reality.
Dr. Otto is the chair of the digital media technologies (DMT) department, with a Ph.D. from the University of Memphis. During his tenure as chair he has upgraded the technology and facilities used by DMT students, including building a recording studio, a state-of-the-art multimedia classroom, and procuring and researching the integration of industry standard equipment and computing power. His research focuses on virtual communities and the nature of multiple player games, and trying to understand the phenomenon from the player’s perception.
